Cleaning And Maintenance For Your Sex Doll: What You Need To Know
Time for the least glamorous side of owning a doll, which is upkeep. It also happens to be the most important job: neglect a doll and she'll look tired, feel sticky and wear out years ahead of schedule. Happily, the job is straightforward. There's nothing fiddly about it, it costs little, and it's quicker than people expect. The catch: skipping it or cutting corners has consequences. TPE and silicone are durable stuff, but they have no healing ability. Stains that set are forever, mould inside her is a health hazard, and a loose joint stay that way. There's no fix that reverses any of it, so prevention is the whole game.

Your After-Use Routine
We'll take the entire routine properly, beginning with what you do after every single use. Cleaning is non-negotiable, and it isn't just about hygiene: it's about how long the material lasts. Porous TPE absorbs oils, bacteria and dyes. Non-porous silicone doesn't, though it still needs cleaning to stop buildup. It's identical for both materials:
1. Remove inserts first and wash them on their own
2. Clean the orifices with warm water and gentle antibacterial soap
3. Dry every part well using drying sticks (15-20 minutes at the least)
4. Coat the full exterior with cornstarch or baby powder
5. Store her correctly

Dry, Then Powder
If owners are going to fail anywhere, it's step three. A drying stick is an absorbent rod that you insert and leave for 15-20 minutes; don't treat it as optional. Without this step, mould takes hold, and mould is a big problem for porous materials. It starts inside, where you can't see it, and by the time you notice the smell it has already taken hold. A soft makeup brush works well for powdering, and it keeps the surface from going tacky and dust from sticking to the skin.

The Weekly Once-Over
Once a week, do a more careful check. Run her through her full range of motion and check whether any joint is squeaky, as silicone-based lubricant on the joint bolt, a dab, sorts it, but keep oil-based lubricants away from TPE, because they damage the material. Look for small tears or wear, since small tears can be repaired with a TPE repair kit before they get worse, and larger tears need professional repair, so don't ignore small damage, because it spreads. Tears cost less to fix the earlier you catch them, and they're less likely they spread structurally important areas.

Looking After the Hair
Every week or two, wash the wig with shampoo designed for wigs, not regular hair products, then let it air-dry fully before it goes back on. Look for stains as well, since even with care lets discolouration creep in around the thighs, back and buttocks, especially on pale skin, which shows every mark. The weekly check takes roughly fifteen minutes and catches most issues while they're still cheap to sort.

Keeping TPE Soft
Monthly, do the deep job. Give the TPE a coat of oil, since the material gradually sheds oil with time and needs replenishing, and a light application of mineral oil specifically formulated for TPE dolls keeps the material soft and prevents cracking, about monthly or every couple of months, based on local climate and how much use she gets. In a hot, dry place you'll have to oil more frequently than someone in a cooler, damper one. Check over the skeleton for joints that don't hold their positions, loose standing feet bolts (if applicable) and any stress or wear on the internal framework.

The Rest of the Monthly List
Deep clean the orifices with a stronger antibacterial solution to prevent bacterial growth, then rinse and dry thoroughly. Inspect her storage setup as well, as hanging points shift, new sources of pressure appear, and anything in contact with her that could transfer dye is worth catching early. Keep a written log of when you oiled, powdered and deep cleaned and you'll always know what's overdue; overdue jobs are the most common reason for accelerated wear.

Comparing the Workload
The routine is mostly the same for both materials, but a few differences matter. TPE takes more upkeep because it's porous, meaning more careful cleaning, more regular powdering and more oiling, and it stains more easily too, although it's softer and warmer. More forgiving, non-porous silicone resists stains and bacteria much better, never needs oiling, holds detail longer, and is firmer, more expensive and sometimes feels less alive. Hybrid dolls with a TPE body and silicone head get the best of both, so the maintenance you're doing is concentrated where it actually matters and the head needs nothing beyond a wipe.

Avoidable Errors
Most owners go wrong at this point, so avoid these mistakes:
1. Don't use soap, body wash or shampoo meant for people, because they strip oils from the material
2. Alcohol and bleach damage both TPE and silicone, so don't use them
3. The shower is off limits unless she has standing feet with metal bolts
4. Avoid leaving her in direct sunlight, which damages the material and fades wigs
5. Don't miss out the drying, the most important step in cleaning
6. TPE joints get silicone-based lubricant only, never oil-based
7. Test every fabric on a cloth before you try it on her body
8. Don't skip maintenance because you haven't used her

Putting Her Away Properly
The last one is the one that catches owners out. Put her in storage and TPE still needs oiling and powdering, as it degrades whether it's used or not. After six months untouched, a doll emerges drier and stiffer than a maintained one, and the damage may be permanent. Prepare her for long storage by oiling and powdering her, then keep her out of sunlight and away from heat sources. Plan a bit extra time for the first clean after storage.

Inserts and Fewer Orifices
Let's not pretend: this takes time. The full clean is around 45 minutes, and more for heavy or large dolls, truly. The fun might last 20 minutes and the cleanup takes 45, which is the reality of owning a doll. That's why people turn to inserts, which cut cleanup time about in half, or pick a doll with fewer orifices. If you're not ready for that time commitment, pick a doll with inserts. If you are ready, make it part of your routine and stop resisting, as upkeep is what keeps her in good shape.

Heavy Dolls Make It Harder
Heavy dolls complicate the job more than it sounds. For a 45kg doll the cleaning involves lifting, turning and moving her time after time, which is truly physical. You can do a 25kg doll in one sitting without much strain; it's doable. For minimal effort is the priority, buy the lighter doll and accept the trade-off in presence, because there's no way a heavy doll cleans itself.

Mild Soap and Cornstarch
What you clean her with, and whether it's safe, is another question. Safest of all: a mild antibacterial soap, diluted in warm water, unscented, with no added moisturisers or exfoliants. You can reuse drying sticks, they're cheap, and a pack of ten lasts months. The powder can be plain supermarket cornstarch, which is cheaper than purpose-made baby powder and works just as well. Cooking oil is no substitute: it goes rancid inside the material and causes a smell you can't get rid of, so buy the correct mineral oil for TPE from doll suppliers.

The Rule of Thumb
Follow this rule of thumb for any product you're unsure about: if you wouldn't put it on your own skin, don't put it on the doll. Products with alcohol, bleach or oil-based ingredients must not be used on TPE. The scent of a scented product can linger on silicone, so avoid them. The safe fallback is plain water and mild soap, which manufacturers themselves advise for regular cleaning.

Your Care Calendar
Here's the whole thing laid out by date. Immediately after use: clean, dry, powder, store. Each week: joint check, damage check, wig wash, stain check. Month by month: oil TPE, deep-clean orifices, inspect the skeleton, check storage. Three- to six-monthly: full inspection of joints, skeleton and feet, replace worn components, check for cracking or sagging. Every year: consider replacing the wig, inserts and heavily worn components before they fail.

Why It's Worth the Effort
Maintenance is unglamorous, and nobody mentions it when they buy a doll, but it's the difference a doll that lasts ten years and one that lasts eighteen months. The whole thing is simple: clean, dry, powder, oil, check and repeat. You're looking at 45 minutes a session and maybe ten minutes a week more. Stick with it and your doll will repay you.
