A Practical Unboxing Checklist: Don't Void Your Warranty
The most thrilling part of acquiring a doll, the unboxing, doubles as the moment you can accidentally void your assurance without becoming aware it. The checklist below is the precise process that seasoned buyers follow every time, and a few minutes of care during delivery and inspection can be the difference between a smooth purchase and a stressful dispute. The process is straightforward, yet simple to skip in the excitement, and skipping it is how customers end up with a damaged doll and no recourse.

Liability Ends When You Sign
Inspect the box first, before signing the delivery receipt. Enthusiastic and in a hurry, most people skip this step, which is the single most vital one. Should the box be crushed, torn, dented, or wet, photograph it from multiple angles before you open it. The shipping company's liability ends when you sign for the delivery, and if you sign for a damaged box without documenting it, they'll deny any claim you make later. For the cost of thirty seconds and a few photos, you can save hundreds of pounds.

Maintaining Your Right to Claim
Your signature is the point of no return. Signing means accepting the delivery as received in good condition, so any damage that wasn't documented at the time becomes your difficulty rather than the shipping company's. To maintain your right to claim when the box looks damaged, refuse delivery or sign as "damaged"; you have the right to do either. Pressed to sign without inspecting the box? Sign with a note saying "unchecked" or "signed without inspection"; it's your only protection in that circumstance.

Remove the Doll Slowly
Prudently does it when you open the box, once it's inside and you've documented any visible damage. Along the tape, with a knife or scissors, is the way to open it, rather than tearing into the cardboard, which can scratch or cut the doll inside if done carelessly. Checking as you go, remove the doll slowly, and hold onto the packaging until you've completed the inspection, because you may need it to return the doll if something is incorrect.

Photograph Tears and Contact the Seller
The first check is for tears in the armpits, groin, and neck. These are the areas where the material is thinnest and where damage is most typical during shipping. You can check the armpits by gently lifting the arms, the groin by slowly moving the legs apart, and the neck by gently turning the head. Photographs of any tears should be taken right away, and the vendor contacted before you do anything else. Repair is possible for small tears, yet an ignored or worsened tear can become a much bigger complication.

Check Two: The Fingers
Your second check should be the fingers. Make sure every finger is intact, that the joints are moving smoothly, and that there are no noticeable breaks or tears in the material. Especially with wire-frame hands, a finger that's been damaged in transit is a common issue, and it's much easier to resolve if it's reported straight away. Individually check each finger, bending each joint gently to confirm it moves freely.

A Loose Bolt Is a Safety Issue
Next, the third thing to check, are the standing feet bolts, if your doll has them. Confirm that both bolts are present, secure, and not loose, and that neither protrudes through the sole of the foot. Both complications are worth reporting: a missing bolt is a manufacturing flaw, and a loose bolt is a safety issue. With the bolts present and secure, move on to the next check.

Face Shape, Eye Colour, Makeup and Expression
Head sculpt: that's the fourth thing to check. The head that arrived should match the photos of the head you ordered; compare them to make sure. Clear as it sounds, head swaps are more typical than you'd think, and a mismatched head is a legitimate complaint. Face shape, eye colour, makeup, overall expression: check them all, and if anything doesn't match, photograph it and contact the vendor.

Report Before You Use the Doll
Next, the fifth thing to check, is the joints. Put each joint through its full range of motion and make sure everything moves smoothly, with no grinding, squeaking, or resistance. A joint that's stiff is usual, but a joint that's grinding or feels like it's catching is a defect. Before you use the doll, document and report any difficulty you find, as using a doll with a flawed joint can make the problem worse and may void your warranty.

Wrong Size Is a Legitimate Complaint
The body proportions are the sixth thing to check. Check the doll against the advertised measurements and make sure the waist, hips, bust, and height match what you ordered. A doll that's the incorrect size is a legitimate complaint, as manufacturing mistakes take place. This is particularly important for purchasers who ordered a custom size, because there's no simple way to fix a size slip-up once the doll has been used.

Skin Quality Check
Check the skin texture and finish seventh. The skin should look consistent across the whole body, so look for uneven regions, discolouration, or visible seams. Evident seams or sizable patches of discolouration are a fault, whereas some trivial variation is ordinary. Troubled? Contact the seller, and photograph anything that looks mistaken.

Wig and Eye Inspection
Worth doing is an eighth check, a wig and eye inspection. Verify the wig's colour and style against your order, and the eyes' colour and setting too. Small as these details are, they're part of what you paid for, and a mismatch is a legitimate complaint. Photograph the wig and eyes plainly, and compare them to the order confirmation before you contact the vendor.

Run Your Hands Over the Body
Your ninth check is the overall feel of the doll. Run your hands over the body, feeling for lumps, hard spots, or any inconsistencies in the material. A doll that feels uneven or has hard patches is a defect, although some texture is normal. This is particularly significant for silicone dolls, which should feel silky and consistent, and for TPE dolls, which should feel gentle and pliable without any hard spots.

Check the Bonus Items
Ten on the list: accessories, plus any additional items that came with the order. Tick off the spare wig, the storage bag and the cleaning kit if you ordered them, making sure everything is present and in great condition. It's usual for accessories to go missing, and the issue is much easier to resolve if you report it straight away rather than discovering it weeks later.

Different Packaging Gets Refused
An eleventh check that's regularly overlooked is the packaging itself. At least thirty days is how long to keep the original box and any internal packaging, since most returns and warranty claims require it. Different packaging regularly gets a returned doll refused by the retailer, but original packaging makes arrival in decent condition much more likely. Date of arrival, labelled clearly on the box, and a dry place to store it: you may need it.

Vendors Who Don't Resolve Issues
Where there are issues, document everything before you contact the vendor. Photograph the damage and keep the packaging, then write down precisely what you found and when you found it. Right away contact the seller, describing the issue obviously and including the photographs. Early reports with evidence get issues resolved quickly by most sellers, and the ones that don't are the ones you want to steer clear of in the future regardless.

The Don't List
A crushed box ordinarily means the doll isn't fine inside, so don't sign for it and assume otherwise. Don't throw out the packaging before you've completed the inspection; you'll need it if you have to return the doll. Utilising a damaged doll can void the warranty, so don't use the doll before you've completed the inspection. Proving the damage was there from the start gets harder the longer you wait, so don't wait to report an issue.

Your Unboxing Documentation Is Your Strongest Asset
A warranty claim you believe is legitimate might be refused by the retailer, and it's worth knowing what to do then. In that circumstance, the documentation you collected during the unboxing is your strongest asset, and it's worth escalating cautiously. Opt for writing over the phone when contacting the seller, so there's a record of what was said and when, and include all the photographs and a clear description of the fault. With a credit card purchase and a vendor who still refuses, contact your card provider and request a chargeback. Clear evidence of a flaw and a refusal to resolve it will get most card providers siding with the purchaser, but the evidence must be documented and timely.

Pricey Doesn't Mean Fully Covered
You might also ask what the assurance really covers, because not all assurances are the same. They don't cover damage caused by misuse, accidents, or usual wear and tear, but most assurances cover manufacturing flaws such as tears at the seams, joint failures, and material faults. Honoured if obviously a flaw, rejected if clearly user mistake: that's why understanding the difference between a flaw and damage is essential. An expensive doll doesn't guarantee that everything is covered, so read the assurance carefully before you purchase.

The Bottom Line: Thirty Minutes of Protection
Taking about thirty minutes, the unboxing checklist is the single best protection for your purchase, and that's the bottom line. The doll's condition at the moment of delivery gets recorded, and that moment is the only one when the retailer and the shipping company are both still liable. Do it properly and take it seriously, and you avoid the most widespread cause of customer disputes.
