A Beginner's Guide To Using A Sex Doll: What To Know Before You Start
Your first doll is either in the house already or on the way. Unbox a 35kg silicone human in your living space and there's a beat of slight panic as you stand there and ask yourself: now what? The answer to that question is what follows here. No padding and no assumption that you have any idea what you're doing, just the hands-on essentials you will truly need in the opening week plus the things that will save you from pricey slip-ups in month one. A second read after she arrives makes significantly more sense than the first, so go through it once beforehand and once afterwards, as you will notice things you missed the first time.

Before you even open the package, a few things are worth doing, as once she's out of the package, shifting her about becomes considerably harder. Decide exactly where she's going to live, and "somewhere in the bedroom" does not count, so pick an actual place like a cabinet, a corner, or a storage case. The last thing you wish is to be making up storage at 11 p.m. with a naked doll in your arms, as dolls are hefty and unwieldy. Evident the space she'll rest on, be it a bed, floor, or carry case, and verify it's clean and free of anything that could transfer dye, as dark blankets, poorly dyed fabrics, and anything that might shed colour pose a risk. With carpet, lay something smooth underneath her. With a low bed, verify that it will not give way under her pressure in time.

Have your kit ready before she arrives:
1. Cornstarch or baby powder (for TPE dolls)
2. A hair dryer (for freeing up joints)
3. A clean, pale-coloured cloth (for the cloth test)
4. A wide-toothed wig comb (not a standard hairbrush)
5. Drying sticks (for the openings)
6. Mineral oil formulated for TPE (where it applies)
7. A soft cosmetic brush (for powdering)

It is all inexpensive, but every bit of it matters. For maybe £20 you get the full kit, and that is the variation between a doll that stays in top condition and one that does not. Take your time opening the box as opposed to tearing into it, and if it is damaged, image it first, as that is your only cover for a warranty case. A quick inspection comes next: inspect for splits in the armpits and groin, verify all fingers are undamaged, and verify the head sculpt matches what you bought. Get in feel with the supplier before you do anything else if something's wrong, and picture it without delay, since a claim gets much harder once the doll has been used or repositioned.

Nearly every new buyer is caught off guard by the next element: she will feel rigid. Straight from the factory, the joints are tight, which is perfectly normal and does not mean any part is broken. Before you can pose her, you will have to limber up the joints, and the technique is easy. Soften the TPE at each joint with a hair dryer on a gentle setting, not hot, after that attentively move each joint through its whole range of motion, working through the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, and ankles. If a joint will not move, warm it more, and never force anything. Spend an entire hour on this. It sounds excessive, but it's the variation between a doll you will genuinely pose and a doll that ends up frozen in one pose since you gave up.

She's weightier than she looks, which catches everyone. A 35 kg doll doesn't seem like much right until you lift her from a low position and the load is concentrated in the wrong places, so use good lifting technique, squatting down and lifting with your legs as opposed to your back. Keep her close to your body by taking hold under the armpits and bear hugging her whenever you can, as the closer she is to your centre of mass, the less load you will feel. TPE and silicone both hold warmth fairly well, so she's warmer than you expect, and the first time you feel her with care she'll feel less plastic than you'd probably expected. That is the chief reason people say their dolls feel alive, not as of movement or AI, but as the cloth genuinely reacts when touched in a method that catches you off guard.

TPE gets sticky with time, especially in high temperatures or after cleansing, so powder her on a regular basis: a light coating of cornstarch or baby powder applied with a soft make-up brush maintains the exterior even and dust-free, and it should be done following every cleansing session. Occasional oiling is also needed, since TPE sheds oil in time, and a small amount of mineral oil formulated especially for TPE dolls a few times a year holds the cloth soft and prevents drying out, even though excess oil makes the finish slippery and collects dust faster than dried-out skin does, so do not use too much.

Believe of cleansing as a procedure, not a one-off. After use:
1. Take out any inserts and wash them separately
2. Clean the cavities with lukewarm water and gentle cleanser
3. Dry everything well with drying stands (15 to 20 minutes)
4. Powder the exterior with cornstarch or baby powder
5. Keep her with care

This isn't optional, as skip it and you will get mould developing inside her in a matter of weeks. The complete procedure takes around 45 minutes, which is longer than many people expect, and it is the primary reason veteran owners switch to removable liners, which cut that time roughly in half.

The worst blunder novice owners make is not thinking about storage until it is an issue. Most seasoned owners hang their dolls, using a heavy-duty ceiling mount rated for at least 60 kg with a dedicated loop, which holds her in one position without putting pressure on the joints. You can keep her lying down as well, but be careful: level surfaces are fine and uneven ones aren't, and long stretches on her back can squash her buttocks or breasts, so vary the position now and after that. Never leave her in bright sunlight, since UV damages both TPE and silicone and discolours wigs and painted details fast, so a cabinet or a covered storage container is ideal.

The internet has a lot of opinions about owning dolls, most of which are false or overstated. Yes, she's hefty and her joints need maintenance, but you do not have to be "careful" in the sense of treating her like porcelain, since she's designed to be used and she's not made of glass. You shouldn't feel you have to be sheepish, seeing as huge numbers of people own sex dolls, the market has expanded massively in the past decade, and the taboo has diminished fast, so if you've chosen to own one, that is a private choice and not something wrong with you.

You needn't treat her like a person either. Plenty of owners build intricate characters and personas for their dolls, which is great and component of the appeal for many people, but it is optional, and wanting a doll for bodily pleasure and companionship without the roleplay is an entirely valid way to use one. The only thing you genuinely need to get right is the everyday side, as everything else is a matter of taste and nobody else has a say on how you use something you own.

Every owner develops their own regime, and mine for what that is worth is uncomplicated. Limber up the joints before each session, not the whole hour from the first time but just a couple of minutes to be sure nothing is inflexible, and powder after each clean without fail. Inspect the material test on any new clothing even if you've used the same brand before, keep a second wig nearby because synthetic fabric takes longer to dry out than you'd anticipate and you do not wish to be waiting, and put away her with care every time. It is not difficult, just the regime that maintains your doll in great condition for many years rather than months.

Your first month will teach you the bulk of what you should know, and the blunders you make early tend to be low-cost ones if you're careful. The pricey issues come later, and they nearly always come down to something skipped in the early weeks. A joint eased too aggressively, a fabric tested on the doll as opposed to a cloth, a storage arrangement that looked fine until the pressure pressed down into it. Go slowly at the beginning and the rest looks after itself.

You will also need to know what to do when something eventually goes wrong, as it will. A tear in the armpit, a loose joint, a dye mark that will not come out. Panicking and assuming the doll is wrecked is the instinct, but virtually everything short of a broken skeleton is fixable if you deal with it early. Mending kits for TPE cost next to nothing and deal with tiny splits. You can tighten or replace loose joints. Dye marks are the one thing that does not come out, and that is why the fabric test is so important. Find out which issues are fixable and stop fretting over the ones that aren't.

A doll is a serious purchase that deserves respect, but "serious" does not mean "difficult." Skip limbering up the joints, regular powdering, and correct storage and you will be replacing her significantly sooner than you expected, but do them and you'll get years out of her. The opening week is the hardest, and after that it becomes second nature.
