Joint-Loosening Your Sex Doll After Unboxing: How To Do It Safely
You've unboxed her and she looks incredible, then you try bending her arm into a pose and nothing takes place. More pressure goes on. It remains stubbornly in place. Now you're convinced you've snapped something, she arrived damaged, or the money's been wasted. Stop. It's entirely normal, and the fix is easier than you'd expect.

Joints That Have to Hold a Pose
Deliberate tightness is what you're seeing, not a manufacturing error; dolls arrive with tight joints from the factory. A pose has to hold when she's standing, sitting or lying in any position, which means tight enough joints. Heavy dolls with loose joints can't hold any pose at all, making loose worse than tight. Tight is the side producers err on, so you've got to break the joints in before they can be used properly.

Stiff Today, Balanced Tomorrow
Let's commence with why the joints are tight. Notable weight rests on a weighty doll's joints; too loose out of the box and she'll be sagging within hours of being posed. A longer handy life comes from tight joints, since they can be loosened gradually over time without getting too loose too rapidly. Over a week or two, a doll that arrives stiff can be worked in until the joints are perfectly balanced. A doll that arrives loose has no way to tighten back up, and you'll be fighting sagging within months.

Which Joints Take the Most Effort
Joint by joint, the tightness varies; that's the second thing to comprehend. The hip, knee, and shoulder joints are ordinarily the tightest, because they bear the most weight. The neck, wrist, and ankle joints are generally looser, because they bear less weight. The elbow and wrist joints are somewhere in between. Knowing this sets your expectations: every joint won't feel the same, and the hip joints might need considerably more effort to break in than the neck.

The Hairdryer Technique, Step by Step
The method for loosening joints is straightforward, although the details matter. Warm is the setting, hot is not. Hold the hairdryer about six inches off each joint for thirty to sixty seconds. Softened TPE around the joint, courtesy of the warm air, means easier movement without stressing the surrounding material. Once it's warm, work the joint gently through its full range of motion a few times over, forcing nothing. Work through the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles in turn, repeating the process on each joint.

The Science Behind the Warm-Up
TPE being a thermoplastic, it softens when heated and firms up when cooled, and this is why the warm-up matters. By warming the joint you temporarily soften the material so it moves more easily; when the doll cools down, it firms back up and the joint holds its new position. Both things trace back to temperature: the doll that's stiff at first but far more adaptable after a warm-up, and the doll in the cold room that stubbornly resists even after weeks of use.

Ten Minutes Here, Five Minutes There
An hour, in full, is the right length for the first session. It sounds excessive, but it's the difference between a doll you'll really pose and a doll that ends up stuck in one position because you gave up. Split the time as ten minutes on the neck, ten on each shoulder and elbow, ten on each hip and knee, and five on each wrist and ankle. Take each joint slowly through its full range, don't force anything, and stop if it feels like it's resisting more than it should. Give it more warmth, then attempt once more.

Patience With Stubborn Hips
The hip joints deserve their own mention because they're the most stubborn. The tightest joints on the doll are normally the hips, which bear the most weight. At first, the hip joints on a substantial doll can be genuinely tough to move, and it can take several sessions before they feel natural. Stay relaxed if the hips refuse to move on the first day. Warm them up, go as far as they'll let you, then stop and attempt again tomorrow. It's perfectly normal for the hips to need a week or two to break in fully.

How to Break in Shoulder Joints
The second most stubborn joints are the shoulders. Bearing important weight as well, they're typically locked tight so the doll's arms won't sag when she stands. Move the shoulders gently through forward, backward and sideways arm raises to cover their full range, and stop if anything seems to resist. With patience and warmth, a shoulder that won't raise fully can ordinarily be coaxed into position, but forcing it damages the joint.

Working Through the Knees Slowly
Knees are neither the tightest nor the loosest. Easier to move than the hips yet tighter than the arms, they need working through their full range, including bending, straightening and slight rotation. Tighter than the elbows, looser than the hips: that's the typical position for the knees, whose purpose is to keep the doll upright. Extreme positions should wait until the knees have been faulty in properly, and in the meantime work them slowly through their range of motion.

Expressiveness Starts With the Neck
You'll normally find the neck joint loosest, because it bears the least weight. It ought to move relatively freely right away, though it may need some warmth to reach its full range. The neck is the easiest joint to break in, and it's also the easiest to damage if you force it, so be mild even though it feels looser. The doll is going to be expressive if the neck moves freely, and harder to pose naturally if it's stiff.

Why a Tight Wrist Ruins Hand Poses
The wrist and ankle joints are somewhere in between. Generally reasonably loose because they don't bear much weight, they can nonetheless be tight enough to cause difficulties if you're negligent. Move them through their full range (bending, rotation, flexing), and stay away from forcing them into extreme positions before they've been non-working in. Too tight a wrist makes it hard to pose the hands, and too tight an ankle makes it hard to stand the doll.

Never Force Anything
Forcing anything is a no, and I mean never. A forced joint can snap the skeleton or tear the material, and both are pricey repairs that could have been steered clear of. Should a joint refuse to move, warm it more. Should it still refuse to move, stop and try again tomorrow. It's evident in every pose she holds whether a doll was broken in properly or forced, and the whole method comes down to patience.

Preparing Your Space for Break-In
A few practical tips will make this process easier. Ambient temperature influences the material, so work in a warm room if you can; a doll in a cold room will feel stiffer than a doll in a warm room. Keep a hairdryer convenient and use it liberally. Wait before loosening the joints: the doll needs to settle after shipping, and a day of rest will leave the material more pliable when you start.

Sessions Get Shorter Each Day
Expect about a week of daily sessions, each shorter than the one before. The first session runs longest, about an hour, the second perhaps forty minutes, and from the fourth or fifth on you only need five or ten minutes to move each joint through its range and confirm everything is working. Following a week, the joints will feel natural and posing the doll will take no effort. If you skip this process, you've purchased a poseable doll for nothing: she stays stiff and you end up evading poses that require movement.

Forced Dolls Slouch
You'll see notable results from right joint loosening. If the break-in was done correctly, expect any pose to last hours with no sagging and a change of position to take seconds, not minutes. If a doll has been forced, expect loose joints within months and a sag into a slouch despite your attempts to pose her upright. Everything depends on the first week, when the joints can still be broken in instead of being already set; that's the full difference between the two.

Adjustable Screws and Replacement Joints
Over time, with heavy use, a joint can become too loose; there's normally a way to tighten it if so. A small adjustment can restore the tension when a skeleton has adjustable screws, as some do. The costlier alternative is a replacement joint, though it's still a better deal than replacing the whole doll. Don't wait until a joint is entirely loose to address it; the earlier you catch it, the easier it is to fix, and the manufacturer can tell you what kind of adjustment is possible on your precise doll.

Final Word on Breaking In
The stiffness you find on day one is a feature and not a complication; that's the bottom line. Loosening the joints is part of owning the doll, and they're tight because they need to be. Take it slowly, use heat, work each joint carefully, and force nothing. The reward for a week of effort is a doll that poses naturally for years. More info at this rosslink.
